Learn about the history, materials, and traditions of incense in Japan and
beyond. Together with Mia Reiko Braverman of fumi, you'll explore fragrant woods through the practice of monkō, the traditional art of "listening" to incense, before blending and shaping your own all-natural incense cones from aromatic woods, resins, and botanicals.
Rooted in cultural exchange, curiosity, and respect, this class offers both a
hands-on introduction to incense making and an opportunity to connect with
the histories, materials, and rituals that have shaped this practice for
centuries.
All materials and tea will be provided.
About the instructor:
Mia Reiko Braverman is an artist, incense maker, and owner of Fumi, an
incense studio and shop in Portland. A first-generation Japanese American,
her work draws from cultural memory, blending tradition with contemporary
exploration. Her practice centers the Japanese diaspora of incense
traditions, and she has taught classes throughout the US and Japan.

Full refund -10% processing fee TWO weeks or more before the workshop/event begins.
While on Earth is not able to offer any refunds for cancelling your reservation less than 2 weeks before a workshop as this is a one woman show and I cannot recoup costs for myself or workshop instructors.
